When Jesus Christ returns on the last day, is He coming as a "thief in the night" or as the Father of lights?

I think that the nonbelievers may see Jesus as a theif in the night, steeling their loved ones away from them while they experience destruction, etc. To the believers, he would be the father of light. I think that some verses are talking to those who believe and those who do not.
