TTC O-Testing Question?

My husband and I havebeen TTC for almost a year now. I rarely get my period but I got it last month and have just recently got it again starting today. Both months it has come at the same time. I shiould have been monitering my temps between these two but I didn't. Is there something I should be doing after this one ends? Should I buy an ovulation tester and start testing after this period ends? If so, when should I start testing? Also, what happens if my period skips next month? Does that mean I won't ovulate after this period is over? Any information would be helpful! Thanks!!
