Would it be worth it to spend more on equipment to clean/sharpen a sword then I spent for the sword itself?

Finally a Sword question! I know the deal you got, but to get a good carbide with a hone is all you need. Most swords are cheaply made decorative pieces. But if you grind them down to give them an edge, and then use the carbide and hone you can have a remarkably sharp and useful tool. I do this as a hobby and during a garage sale this year made $ 40 on one sword just for having an amazing edge, and cutting demonstration.
