What would you call an alcoholic drink made from fermented cane (white) sugar?

I'm thinking of ginger beer and the like. Although the brewing process is similar to beer or wine, it's not made from grain or gs so I don't think it can be called by either of those names. And since it's not distilled it can't really be rum either. Does anyone know what you would call this type of drink?
