Are the seasons really weird at the equator?

Well what I understand is that right at the equator, north and south of it, is really warm. Whether you live north or south of it, the closer to it you are, the warmer climate you live in, so I think that if you're right on it, or near it, your temperatures year 'round are going to be summer like conditions. Also, interesting fact, did you know that south of the equator, the toilets don't flush the same way as ours here north of the equator? They flush upwards instead of down! I'm serious!
